Iran film at Venice fest gets rave reviews from int'l media

Iran film ‘No Date, No Signature’ attending Venice International Film Festival gets rave reviews from media.

Iran film ‘No Date, No Signature’ attending Horizons strand of 2017 Venice International Film Festival gets rave reviews from prestigious international news outlets on films and entertainment.

A review published by Jay Weissberg of Variety on the Jalilvand siblings’ production lauded ‘No Date, No Signature’ as “a handsomely made, exceptionally well-played drama.”

The piece also described performance of starring Iranian actor Navid Mohammadzadeh as “no-holds-barred performance … recognized by the Fajr jury with their supporting actor prize” which “gives ‘No Date’ its emotional core.”

The other parts of the review cover the main plot of the film.

Meanwhile, Deborah Young of the Hollywood Reporter wrote in her review that the film “was much applauded at its Venice Horizons bow,” comparing ‘No Date, No Signature’ with Oscar-winning Iran director Asghar Farhadi’s A Separation’.

The second review also read, “The film is a visual pleasure, shot in elegant, nearly black-and-white images highlighted with faint traces of color. Mohsen Nassrollahi’s sets and costumes are effective in creating characters and setting the stage for the unfolding drama, matched by Peyman Yazdanian’s subtle musical comment.”

The movie narrates the story of Kaveh Nariman, a doctor who works at the Iranian Legal Medicine Organization. He has to examine the corpse of someone that he used to know in the past.

‘No Date, No Signature’ premiered at the 35th edition of the Fajr Film Festival and received three Crystal Simorghs, including the best director, the best actor in a supporting role and the best sound awards.

The 74th edition of the Venice International Film Festival is slated for August 30 to September 9, 2017.

Jalilvand’s movie, produced by his brother Ali, has represented Iran at the Orizzonti (New Horizons) section of the event.
